A Different Mask

A Different Mask

Novak / Webster

You’re born into a tribe you really have no choice
Masks were needed each with its own voice
We’re programmed that work is what life’s all about
Blood sweat and tears disregarding all doubt.
When you enter a room, you must be in disguise
Or you’ll appear as the other in there eyes

You must now pretend that you’re one of the guys
Pissin’ and moanin’ ‘bout their stressed out lives
Peaople recoil when you speak of your day
That’s not a job you’re not working they say
Living for yourself defies the golden rule
It’s not what they teach at your church or at your school

CHORUS

Do you wear a different mask
Do you wear a different mask
Do you wear one mask in front of your peers
And do you wear a different mask to agree with their fears
Do you wear one mask because you made it your way
Do you wear another mask because your sick of what they say

As we look at the masks we’ve worn over time
With our favorite ones at the head of the line
We’ve worn them so long they they’ve shaped who we are
Each unique mask leaves a permanent scare
When I remove the last mask at the end of my days
Did I see life clearly or get lost in life’s maze

CHORUS

When I look in the mirror is it me who I see
Did the masks make my life or was it all make-believe
